A B.C. man has pleaded guilty to mischief but is going to trial on assault and imitation firearm charges.
Korey Robert Muskett has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, and one count of assault.
He appeared Aug. 22 before Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Provincial Court Judge Nancy Adams and pleaded guilty to the mischief charge involving damage to a glass door at the Woodwards building at 111 Hastings St. March 12.
A security guard had asked Muskett to leave and he kicked the glass on the door on his way out.
“He was frustrated. He was upset,” said defence lawyer Sandra Mandanici. “He kicked a door. There was damage to the door. He’s remorseful.”
Adams heard Muskett has a past record of such behaviour, having thrown a brick through a Vernon hardware store window in January 2023, throwing another through a hotel window in October 2022 and snapping someone’s cellphone in two.
“There appears to be a pattern in your life when you get upset or frustrated,” Adams told Muskett, who is now in an addiction recovery centre.
Adams sentenced Muskett to 20 days with credit for 19 days spent in custody.
The other charges
Mandanici told Adams her client is pleading not guilty to the other charges and has elected trial by a provincial court judge.
The first incident, as described by the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department, unfolded as two women got out of a ride-share vehicle near Powell Street and Heatley Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. on April 18.
A stranger pointed what appeared to be a gun at one of the women's heads and reportedly made a comment about her being a police officer. However, neither woman is a police officer.
They fled from the suspect and called 911.
Soon after, a man pointed a gun at and assaulted a man sitting at a nearby bus stop.
Muskett was found about an hour later while walking near Hastings and Gore streets and was arrested by two officers working in the area.
Muskett is not in custody and attended court with Mandanici
