Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Provincial Court. Eric Lau appeared before a judge Aug. 20.

Lawyers for a man charged with second-degree murder after a fatal stabbing in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»say they need more time to review the case file before moving to any pleas being made.

Eric Nathan Lau, 29, appeared before Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Provincial Court Judge David St. Pierre Aug. 20 with the case being put over to Sept. 4.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department (VPD) officers responded to reports of screams that day and found Gertrude Cheong, 49, on Rosemont Drive, just north of Fraserview Golf Course.

Cheong died at the scene.

Veen Aldosky, co-counsel with Chris Johnson, told St. Pierre the defence continues to receive Crown disclosure on the case.

“This is quite a serious matter,” she said. “We need time to review disclosure before arraignment.”

VPD Major Crime Section investigators arrested Lau on April 4.

On April 15, the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of second-degree murder against Lau.

Police said the investigation established that the victim and accused knew each other.

Lau remains in custody.
