Alberta truck driver fined, ticketed after crash on B.C. highway

An off-duty police officer was first on scene and helped in the investigation.

Police have ticketed and fined an Alberta transport truck driver after a crash in B.C.

Just before 6 a.m. on Nov. 8, the serious crash caused a section of Highway 1 in Chilliwack to be closed in both directions.

An investigation determined an Alberta-based transport truck driver lost control as he was descending the westbound curve.

The truck flipped over near Annis Road blocking the eastbound and westbound lanes.

A car collided with the debris field in the westbound lane but no injuries were reported.

An off-duty BC Highway Patrol member was able to get to the scene first and made "important observations." He guided his co-workers to the collision and went to get into uniform and returned to help.

An Alberta man, 28, has now been ticketed for driving without care and attention contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act, which is a fine of $368 and six points against his licence.

BC Emergency Health Services was called at 5:49 a.m. and two ambulances with primary care paramedics responded to the scene. There were no patients requiring hospital transport.

The crash resulted in the major highway route being closed for most of the day.
