After a devastating fire tore through several buildings on one Kerrisdale block last fall, a family-run Vietnamese restaurant has re-opened at a new location.
Pho Tan was among the businesses forced to close after the fire in the 2000 block of West 41st Avenue, which was reported late at night on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
The Vietnamese restaurant occupied the retail space at 2076 W 41st. Neighbouring businesses, including a bakery, a market, and a Nando's franchise, were also shut down as a result of the blaze.
In the aftermath of the fire, Pho Tan was unsure if they would be able to open again at their Kerrisdale location or elsewhere. Still, the plan was to carry on with the restaurant no matter way, as Pho Tan's owners promised: "We will be waiting for all of you with a hot bowl of pho and open arms."
Now, Pho Tan has begun a fresh chapter with a new location in Vancouver.
Pho Tan opened its doors in mid-February at 3281 Kingsway, replacing the shuttered Northern Chinese eatery Beijiang Restaurant.
"Thank you to everyone for your patience and constant support," shared Pho Tan's owners, the Nguyen family, on social media in announcing the new location's grand opening.
The restaurant is known for its extensive menu of comforting and traditional Vietnamese dishes including pho, vermicelli bowls, and rice with grilled meats.
Recently, Pho Tan also debuted some new menu items at the restaurant: M瓢c chiên (Spicy deep-fried squid), Cánh gà chiên (Deep-fried chicken wings), and Bánh mì th峄媡 ngu峄檌 (Cold cut sub).
The new Joyce-Collingwood location of Pho Tan is open for lunch and dinner daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Follow on Instagram for restaurant updates.
