Vegan restaurants and cafes seem to come and go in Vancouver, but the city's love of sushi seems enduring.
Over in Kerrisdale, a new all-veggie sushi spot, called , has just opened up at 2260 W 41st Ave. The concept replaced Irashai, previously considered a neighbourhood staple for sushi. Vegan Shoku appears to have launched in early April.
The new venture doesn't have a strong online presence but does have the on third-party delivery platform SkipTheDishes.
The Vegan Shoku menu includes standard sushi restaurant fare, including starters like agedashi tofu, tempura, and gomae, as well as poke bowls, sashimi, nigiri, and rolls.
The menu also includes terms that may give those who follow a plant-based diet pause, as you'll see ingredients like chicken, cream cheese, and tobiko among others. However, V.I.A. confirmed with the restaurant that Vegan Shoku offers only vegan dishes.
Vegan Shoku joins the ranks of several other sushi restaurants with plant-based menus, including Cofu, Shizen Ya, and Mizu, as well as plant-based restaurants that feature sushi on their menus, like Chinatown's popular Mila.
