A new Korean bakeshop recently opened its doors on Robson Street and is already drawing crowds for its selection of donuts with some unique flavour combos.
Called , the treat shop is located at 1660 Robson Street in the heart of Vancouver's mini K-town, in what had previously been Bob Pochana, a casual Thai spot sibling to . The bakery-cafe soft-opened in January and will have its official grand opening on March 4.
This new kid on the block beckons with bright colours and cool graphics, and, once inside, the pastry case loaded with eye-catching treats.
Nukid's specialty is kkwabaegi, twisted donuts that are popular at Korean bakeries and street vendor stalls. It's a basic yeast donut base that is fried and loaded with toppings in sweet, savoury or combo options. The twisted donuts are draped in toppings like bananas and Nutella, strawberries and whipped cream, or "Ugly Honey Garlic."
Their "Corn Cream" donut has a corn-infused cream with cornflakes on top and a pleasant not-too-sweet taste, while the neon orange squiggles of the potato and cheddar cheese call out to those in search of something decidedly savoury. Sugar fiends will be drawn to Nukid's S'mores, Maple, or Choco Crunch kkwabaegi.
In addition to the twist donuts, Nukid has filled round Korean donuts in flavours like matcha and Early Grey, as well as Basque burnt cheesecakes, Sweet Potato Cake, and a few more sweet treats. You may find birthday cake slices, green onion cream-filled scones, madeleines, financiers, or German gugelhupf (bundt cake), depending on what's available when you show up.
The shop also has a menu of coffee and tea drinks, as well as other fun non-alcoholic beverages, like iced lattes made with Jolly Pong, a Korean cereal. They'll even make your four-legged bestie a "Puppuchino."
