People can't seem to gobble up Gabi and Jules handmade pies fast enough.
So, the Port Moody business is now about to open a sister shop in Burnaby to serve up more of its delicious baked goods to a larger population.
Lisa Beecroft is the co-owner, with her husband Patrick, of , as well as Caffe Divano in Burnaby, but recently decided to turn that location into a new pie store.
That's good news for fans who were frantic when they saw it was .
The Burnaby — located at 4568 Hastings St. near Willingdon Avenue — is now turned into another Gabi and Jules location, where customers can pick up , sip a coffee and enjoy some comfort food.
Beecroft, who opened Gabi and Jules in Port Moody in 2016 and named it after her daughters Gabriela and Juliana, said the competition among cafes in The Heights neighbourhood was becoming fierce, but there was room to work with.
"Pie is the ultimate comfort food," Beecroft told the Tri-City News.
"There is this nostalgia about pie and, with the versatility of pies, there is no end to creativity."
Some of the favourites include strawberry ginger peach pie, key lime and blueberry Earl Grey pie. A new feature pie is set ot be offered every Saturday.
Beecroft said while some baking will be done on site at the Burnaby shop, the pies will be made fresh daily at the Port Moody bakery — located at 2302B Clarke St. — where a new, more efficient oven was installed to handle the baking.
Gabi and Jules is also hiring bakers and front of house staff and, while she's busy working with contractors on renovations to the Burnaby store, hopes to open sometime between early next week and the first weekend in June.
