German food, coffee, baked delights and flame-grilled Portuguese-style chicken are all on the menu for New Westminster in the coming days.
New West’s foodies are keeping their eyes on some upcoming additions to the city’s culinary scene.
Among the eateries we’re all waiting eagerly for:
The Tannenbaum
Yes, this is the German food in question, so if schnitzel is calling your name, then get ready to celebrate: This new eatery has just announced it's set for its opening weekend. You can eat there Friday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 26, when it's dishing up dinner between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. You can to send them a DM for reservations, or just get yourself down to Columbia Square (66 10th St., in the unit formerly occupied by Chronic Tacos).
Delicia Café & Bakery
This one’s taking shape in the space formerly occupied by Donuteria, at 656 Columbia St. The café already has an Instagram account () that’s offering glimpses of some pretty delectable-looking baked goods. It even teased us with a Valentine’s Day post touting a freshly baked vegan chocolate brownie (though we can confirm that, as of Friday, Feb. 16, its windows remain papered and it’s not yet open). It’s also hiring for barista and baker positions, so you can send a resume in by email.
Coasters Coffee
Does downtown need another independent coffeeshop? You can never have too many good coffeeshops. Lovers of coffee and all the goodies that come along with it should check out this space next to Chatime, at the corner of Sixth and Carnarvon streets, where the sign promises it’s opening soon. We peeked in the windows this morning, when it was definitely looking like a coffee shop — only to find out later that, in fact, it had had a soft opening just a short time after our visit. So if you're in the 'hood, stop by to check it out!
Barcelos Flame Grilled Chicken
Those who stroll the streets of Sapperton will have seen the “Coming Soon” sign in the windows of this East Columbia Street location (in the 400 block, right near the new Subway location). We still can’t confirm any more than that, since we’ve yet to hear back after reaching out to Barcelos Canada’s head office. But New West chicken lovers should soon be able to enjoy this family-friendly, Portuguese-style flame-grilled chicken right here at home (instead of venturing to Lougheed Town Centre or Market Crossing).
