The Italian-Chinese fine dining restaurant inside the posh Shangri-La Hotel Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»is ending its run to make way for an exciting new chef and re-tooled concept.
, which launched this summer, is poised for a significant reset - but the venue isn't closing entirely in the process.
While Miantiao as we so briefly knew it is no more already, in its place is a pop-up offering that is a bit of a teaser of what's to come in the space, which will be an Italian restaurant.
Heading up the works for the Kitchen Table Group project is a top local chef, Mark Perrier, who was the opening chef/partner of the acclaimed Osteria Savio Volpe and its sister restaurant Pepino's Spaghetti House. He's also worked at other high-profile Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»spots like Cibo Trattoria and CinCin, and knows quite a bit about the meaty side of things thanks to gigs with Two Rivers and the GTO Burger pop-up project.
Just what Perrier and the Kitchen Table crew have in store at the Shangri-La is being kept under wraps for now, but during the month of November diners can still catch a few items from the Miantiao menu alongside Perrier's "fai tu" family-style dishes. "Fai tu" is an Italian term that essentially means the chef chooses the meal - sushi lovers can equate it to the "omakase" approach to dining, for example. The rotating menu will be a hint of what's to come under Perrier's guidance at the new restaurant.
The new restaurant is aiming to be open later this fall.
“I am really looking forward to introducing this new restaurant concept to Vancouver,” explains Perrier in a media release issued Nov. 3, “but that’s all I can say for now until the details are announced in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I look forward to creating wonderful meals and memories in true Italian style!”
Reservations for Perrier's fai tu menu can be made or by calling 604-695-1115. The restaurant will continue to be open daily for breakfast (7 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and dinner (from 5 p.m. daily) The bar and lounge are open daily from 1 p.m.
