Cozy neighbourhood hangout spot Wild Thing opened on Main Street last fall, serving up brunch by day and drinks and small plates by night. Earlier in the year however, members of the seasoned hospitality team had opened a sister restaurant with a similar vibe, Wild Thing Snack Bar which sadly announced Thursday (Apr. 6) it would be closing by the end of the month.
"We're very sad to announce that we have made the incredibly tough decision to close Snack Bar," operators wrote in an Instagram post.
The news comes as a bit of a shock given that only a week ago, Snack Bar announced a whole new menu of eclectic West Coast small plates.
They say the 25-seat veg-forward Powell Street space, owned by six co-owners/partners, "will remain in the family" and be used for special pop-up events in the future.
While only open for a year, Snack Bar developed a cult following and hopes to "go out with a bang" in the next few weeks.
"The community on Powell is one of the absolute best and we have been lucky to be there," reads the post.
Uniquely, in a gesture of gratitude, the closure post also announced that 10 per cent of all sales would be given directly to two beloved staff members who "deserve all of the love and attention in the world."
There has been no official date set for last service and fans hoping to stop in one last time can still make reservations online or walk in.
While it's a sad moment for many, a similar vibe can be found at Wild Thing on Main Street.
