BBQ is some serious grub, and this summer Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»will have a new roving destination for family-style meat-centric eats.
Taking a cue from Texas-style BBQ - where meats like brisket, pork steaks, ribs, and sausages are smoked low and slow - is set to debut its 'cue soon.
The food truck venture comes from Chef Karl Gregg, who knows his way around meat: He was the founder of Big Lou's Butcher Shop, which was a popular local favourite for a few years ahead of its sudden demise in 2015 due to some serious behind the scenes issues with his ex-biz partner.
Rosie's menu was built on Gregg's trips to enjoy the traditional BBQ offerings from Central Texas, and the new business a realization of a long-time dream of his to serve up the fare here in Vancouver.
Gregg got the name Rosie's from the backyard shed tricked out with a smoker that he used last year as his BBQ "test kitchen."
Rosie's BBQ & Smokehouse will offer family-style platters and individual items, like smoked pork steaks, brisket, jalapeño cheddar sausages, and baby back ribs with sides like cornbread, smoked green beans, and slaw. And when it comes to hand-helds, Rosie's will be rocking items like a tri-tip sandwich, a classic smashburger, and a griddled egg sandwich with brisket. They will even be serving up cherry Kool-Aid pickles for something different to crunch on.
For dessert, Rosie's has treats like Apple-Rhubarb hand pie, moon pies, and good ol' banana pudding.
To get started, Rosie's will be parking at select breweries in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»for on-site sales of a la carte items (like the burgers and sandwiches) as well as for pick-up of advanced orders. Currently the BBQ truck is taking orders for June 20, which will find them set up at 15th and Ontario. Pre-orders close June 17 and customers will choose a pick-up slot between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for that day.
