Known for operating commissary kitchens - often with retail or cafe/restaurant ventures attached - runs multiple locations in B.C., including in Metro Vancouver. This weekend, however, marks the end of the dine-in options open to the public at the at the White Rock waterfront.
That means the end of popping by to pick up meals, snacks, and treats from vendors and Coho members The Praguery, Rad Za, and Sirius Craving.
The Praguery is a Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»food truck specializing in Czech chimney cakes, filled with dairy or vegan soft serve and toppings; they opened up their shopfront inside the Coho Eatery this spring. Rad Za is the pizza venture of the Sirius Craving crew, making New York-style and California-inspired pies.
For their part, Sirius Craving, which is best known for its smash burgers and loaded fries, revealed earlier this month it was winding down operations of both its Coho Eatery outpost and its original food truck.
"My wife and I financed this dream independently without outside investors, support, or other avenues of financial assistance," Sirius Craving co-owner Nicholas Quintillan shared in the business' closure announcement. "After three long years in the business, we feel it's time to move on to other opportunities as we can no longer independently finance this business," he explained.
White Rock is Coho's seventh commissary location, offering food entrepreneurs shared kitchen space rentals to grow their businesses, whether they be making restaurant-style dishes or packaged foods. It was the first of the commissaries to have the option for guests to walk in and order from all three menus at one counter and enjoy their food on-site.
In Vancouver, Coho's east side commissary previously ran a coffee shop out of the same building; their member Takenaka took over the space earlier this year to open an onigiri cafe. In Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast, the Coho facility shares the building and prep kitchen space with the full-service restaurant Brassica.
"Thank you for making this year truly special! It’s been an exciting journey introducing our dine-in Eatery experience for the first time!" states Coho Eatery on its website.
Coho, however, is not packing it in entirely in White Rock.
"Although our restaurant service ends on Sunday, August 27, we will continue to operate as Coho Commissary’s 7th shared commercial kitchen space, supporting local small food and beverage entrepreneurs across South Surrey."
