Modern 'Japanese cutlet house' chain opening Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­location soon

Slabs of pork, chicken, or even cheese coated in house-made breadcrumbs and deep fried...

, which describes itself as "a modern take on the traditional Japanese cutlet house," is prepping to open their second Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­location - and this one is right in the heart of the city at 1471 Robson St.

Based in Toronto, Katsuya first expanded to B.C. with their Coquitlam location. The restaurant chain specializes in katsu, breadcrumb-coated and fried cutlets, served with special sauces. However, Katsuya says that they veer from the traditional and their food offers a more "fusion" take on the popular Japanese staple.

Katsuya bakes their breadcrumbs daily, and those cover portions of pork loin, chicken, or fish. Guests can also order up pork loin katsu with the addition of mozzarella on its own or paired with cream cheese or mashed sweet potato.

The katsu dishes can be served up with original sauce or in varieties like "Hot Spicy," "Garlic Chili," or dusted with "White Snow," which is mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Other iterations include takes on a creamy carbonara sauce, as well as katsu paired with sweet Japanese curry sauce. The chain also offers orders of "brick cheese" katsu, which are big slabs of breaded and fried mozzarella cheese, though they only make a limited quantity of this specialty dish each day. 

Katsuya is also dishing up chicken karaage (fried chicken pieces) and udon noodle bowls.

To get a preview of what's to come in Vancouver, you can visit Katsuya at #8 - 555 Clarke Road in Coquitlam. No official opening date for the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­location has been shared, however, it is listed on the company's website as "coming soon."
