When it comes to Halloween treats, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»restaurants, bakeries, and even bars are getting into the spirit of the season big time. Sure, you can grab a bag of candy corn or one of those bags filled with tiny boxes of Smarties from the mega-mart...but you can also support some local businesses and make this a Halloween to remember.
With so many ghouls and goblins of all ages opting to keep the parties small and at home during these unusual times, it's ideal for skipping the regular trick-or-treat eats and opting for something truly spook-tacular. We've rounded up a few of the most hauntingly enticing foods, goodies, and even libations to help liven up your souls for Halloween 2020.
This Halloween, DownLow Burgers is hoping to scare up some good eats with a new, limited-edition creation called THE MONSTER MASH. Available only on Halloween (Saturday, October 31st), The Monster Mash features dry-aged beef patty, boneless fried chicken thigh (spiced medium), slabs of crispy fried pork belly, house jalapeño ranch, Canadian cheddar, lettuce and tomato served on a Livia Sweets potato bun. And, best of all, for those with a sweet tooth, Downlow’s special Lee’s Honey Dip Donut Fried Chicken Sando and Bacon Burger are also available on Oct. 30-31.
Burnaby's Mon Paris has some enchantingly delicious pumpkin-themed treats for kids and grownups to enjoy. Shop in-store or online for milk chocolate Jack-o’-lanterns on a stick filled with otherworldly pumpkin spice caramel, and a splendid Jack-o’-lantern statue charmed with a howling wolf silhouette and delectable caramel truffle. These spellbinding chocolate showpieces made exclusively with Cacao Barry chocolate will leave you begging for more. Halloween items are available now in-store or can be ordered in advance by phone at 604-564-5665, or for pickup or delivery. Delivery is available to Burnaby, New Westminster, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»(select neighbourhoods) and North Vancouver, Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to delivery. A flat delivery fee of $12 will be added to all orders.
Downtown's Uva will be leaving you shaken and stirred this Halloween with three special cocktails, available Oct. 24-31: The Bad Apple - $15 (Ketel One, Green Chartruese, lime juice, lemon juice, apple juice), Peaches Brew - $16 (Makers Mark, lemon juice, Peach Black Tea Syrup, Amaro Lucano, ango and Clingstone peach bitters), and Jack in the Box - $15 (Jack Rye, Fernet Branca, lime juice, Falernum, egg white). Sip if you dare!
The whimsical chocolate and treat shop has come up some ghoul-icious goodies: Monster Mash Cream Puffs. Hurry, though, and get an order in as they are just about sold out. Other treats include ghost lollipops and, of course, their many regular chocolate bars and creations.
It's all treats and no tricks here. East Van Roasters has their Witches Brew - stone-ground Ecuadorian chocolate for at-home hot-chocolate-making with a wicked twist: a touch of charcoal. The brew is paired with strawberry house-made marshmallows and the combination, they say, is scary-delicious. They're also making "natural Candy Corn" called Dark Chocolate Corn Nuts, which is giant Inca corn, candied and coated in 70% Peruvian dark chocolate. Then there's EVR's Honey Nib Caramels, made with Hives for Humanity honey and Madagascar cacao nibs.

Called the Panela Lemon Spider Cookie, this cookie is a collaboration between two Coho Commissary members, Panela Lemon and Leavenly Goods. It features a maple and vanilla-based cookie dough mixed with crunch organic brown rice crisps. The centre is stuffed with a soft and chewy spiced pecan filling and finally decorated with organic dark chocolate candy eyes. Available at Coho Coffee now for $5.25 for pick-up or delivery via UberEats. Limited quantities per day.
Ghoulish goodies are back at Temper Chocolate & Pastry as the popular West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»confectioner celebrates the Halloween season with an original lineup of spooktacular sweets. Created by Temper owner and lead chef Steven Hodge and his pastry team, this year's signature Halloween lineup features a variety of milk and dark chocolate lollipops, bite-sized chocolate "fractures" in assorted spooky shapes, and oversized hollow chocolate pumpkins filled with delicious sweets. Temper's signature Halloween treats will be available exclusively for purchase in-store at the Dundrave neighbourhood patisserie from now until October 31, or while quantities last.
The East Van distillery's cocktail lounge is making Salem The Cat, a drink created by Odd Society Spirits Bar Manager, Olivia Povarchook that uses their Mongrel Unaged Rye. A nod to the former witch that was sentenced to spend 100 years as a cat for attempting to take over the world, Salem The Cat is a powerful bittersweet concoction that will leave you spellbound. Brimming with personality, this beastly potion is made with Odd Society Spirits’ Mongrel Unaged Rye, Mia Amata Amaro and CreÌ€me de Cassis gently stirred with a touch of Fernet Branca and a lick of Pernod, lastly charmed with two brandied cherries.
Available now online and in store, Rocky Mtn Chocolate's complete 2020 Halloween collection features an assortment of gift packs at several prices and sizes; skull, pumpkin, and mummy suckers; milk and dark chocolate ghosts, pumpkins, and mummies; and the #NOBRAINER hollow chocolate pumpkin filled with candies.

Looking to spot a famed ghost this Halloween? The spirit of the graceful hotel guest dubbed the "Lady in Red," is rumoured to been seen at the Fairmont Hotel Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»on the 14th floor, exiting the dummy shafts and in The Roof event venue. If you prefer to sip spirits rather than sight them, Notch8 Restaurant & Bar will be featuring its delicious Lady in Red cocktail.
Go for the good stuff this year. Vancouver-based Purdys has a ton of sweet treats for you to enjoy. Their Halloween line-up includes things like Zombie Eyeballs, chocolate pumpkins and skulls, and collections in little mini coffin boxes.
There's pumpkin picking...and then there's the beautiful chocolate Jack-O-Lantern made by chocolatier Thomas Haas. You definitely won't be leaving the chocolate one out on your doorstep!
