A boutique Japanese grocery store featuring specialty foods and ready-to-eat items launched by a popular local sushi restaurant is getting a sibling.
, created using an under-utilized section of Aburi Restaurants' Yaletown Minami this spring, is expanding.
What Aburi calls a "grocerant" (grocery + restaurant) will soon open its doors in Downtown Vancouver, as part of its Gyoza Bar at 622 West Pender St.
The second Aburi-To-Go shop will offer a dine-in and shopping hybrid, meaning if you ordered up a plate of Gyoza Bar's dumplings for lunch, you can also grab a frozen pack to take home and enjoy later.
Aburi-To-Go features not just frozen packs of juicy gyoza, but also an array of grab-and-go items perfect for easy lunches, snacks, or dinners. The Gyoza Bar location will feature many of Aburi To-Go Yaletown’s popular house-made grocery items and select sushi, with even more selection of bento boxes, Japanese sandos, ramen, and of course, gyoza.
If you're looking to stock your home pantry or fridge, Aburi-To-Go bottles its own condiments, like Akadama Chili Paste or Gyoza's signature "Umami" sauce. You'll also find meal kits, ready-to-bake pastries and cookies, ice cream, and frozen meats and seafood. The market also will stock imported Japanese beverages, including hard-to-find sakes.
Shoppers can also score Aburi-To-Go items from delivery platform Uber Eats soon. A loyalty program will also give regular shoppers access to perks.
Aburi-To-Go Downtown will open officially on Sept. 1, 2021.
