When's a hot dog shop not just a hot dog shop? How about when it's completely plant-based?
That's the premise of , an upcoming restaurant in Vancouver's West End that might have a familiar address to fans of hot dogs.
Setting up shop at 1331 Robson Street, Good Dogs is replacing not one, but two prior hot dog concepts at the location.
Until recently, , a spot featuring globally-inspired hot dogs with a driving theme, had been up and running in the space. Roadog was a re-worked concept that launched back in September 2020, after about a one-year run for Umai Savory Hot Dogs, the California-based hot dog franchise.
However, Good Dogs has confirmed with V.I.A. that they are not related at all to the previous hot dog spots that were in the space.
They are in the process of renovating the space and getting all the paperwork in order and are aiming to be slinging meatless dogs later this month.
Good Dogs is also going to be roving; they have taken over a local hot dog cart business and will have vending locations in the city and in Stanley Park, and they may use one of the locations for plant-based ice cream.
Though the Good Dogs menu is still under development, we do know the head chef is Shane Carreiro (@) who is a plant-based chef previously of MVMT & Grasshopper in Toronto.
The West End is blosoming with cozy with meat-free eats; over on Davie you'll find , which is a fully plant-based comfort food spot. Across the city, plant-based hot dogs are definitely a thing, too: Wurst of Us, a take-out and delivery side project from East Vancouver's Aelph Eatery launched in February this year.
