"Pivot!" was the cry heard 'round the world as COVID-19 forced businesses to change how they operate. One Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»meal subscription service has done just that, branching out to offer groceries for delivery as well as via a drive-through model.
was launched by Fed, a Vancouver-based food/nutrition startup.
"While our main focus has been our nutrition-focused Meal Club, we launched The Grocery Store as a way to make life easier for our members, during this pandemic," explains Fed.
The grocery service, however, has been opened up to anyone, with delivery through most of Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»on select days with a $49 minimum purchase.
Another option is to pick up your drive-through style from Fed's shipping container distribution spot, called the G3 Drive-Though, which opened at the start of July.
You can also at the drive-through; the window is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The G3 Drive-Through features a mix of home and personal care supplies (dish soap, non-medical face masks) as well as foods, including items from local vendors. They are selling par-baked baguettes and sourdough loaves from Gastown's popular Nelson the Seagull, Two Rivers meats, and Avalon Dairy products, for example. A number of small local brands are available (Yoggu, Mumgry, Zimt), and there are plenty of plant-based grocery items, too, including select pints of Umaluma's dairy-free gelato.
Additionally, you can order up an array of pantry goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, snacks, and ready-to-eat meals, alongside beverages like kombucha.
At the shipping container drive-through, once you order and pay or confirm order at the window, you proceed to the end to retrieve your order from a contactless platform that opens up.
Prices are on par with regular stores and other locally-based independent grocery delivery services.
Grocery by Fed's G3 Drive-Through is located at 845 Terminal Avenue in Vancouver
