Fujiya is one of the busiest lunch spots in town, it's a no brainer, there's tons of stuff to choose from, the line up is quick, and it's cheap. Â I, like most Vancouverites, am sushi crazy. Â It's not normal to eat sushi like we do here, not even people in Japan it it like we do. Â So I took a chance the other day, and asked them to dip into that big vat of something, and was served some pretty delicious curry.
If you haven't messed with Japanese curry before, it's mild in terms of spice, rich, but not creamy, more like a curried gravy. Â The portion is huge, and at a price of $4.50, it can't be beat. Â I have a sneaking suspicion that it's Glico instant, but I can't really complain because it tastes so much better than when I make it. Â I can't really see this taking off like Ramen, but on a miserable day, I can't think of any other Japanese food that'll stick to your ribs like this stuff, it's Japan's mac and cheese.
If you're in Burnaby or have the sudden urge to eat at an old folks home you might want to try Fujiya's geriatric cousin .....
