F'N SAVOURY: NOODLES TO CHILL YOU OUT.....

On the recommendation of O-Toro of Vancouverslop.com , I tried Van-ya which is just off Kingsway on Harold Street. I was happily surprised to see that they had a summer special of 'cold noodle's.

On the recommendation of O-Toro of , I tried which is just off Kingsway on Harold Street.  I was happily surprised to see that they had a summer special of 'cold noodle's.  I had tried a few different types in Japan before and found them really refreshing.  I know...it's kinda like cold spaghetti...but kinda not.  Sunomono is really common at most Japanese places, and I can usually put together a decent somen with the help of Fujiya, but Van-ya had my favourite: Hiyashi Chuuka.

This dish is a real mixed bag, as I noted before the dish comes from Japan, but the noodles are an egg noodle, which in Japan at least is associated to Chinese fare, it also has some grated scrambled egg as well as ham, so the western influences are also there.  Think chef salad, over shanghai noodles, in a nice light rice wine vinagerette.

Or just....keep...eating....sushi.....
