Eating burgers and wearing aviator shades = helping the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Foundation. Seriously.

Earlier this week the Fatburger location on Denman Street was hit by a BMW in an apparent distracted driving which sent 4 VPD officers to the hospital. They were eating in the restaurant at the time, and it was bummer news which it's not our style to break here at Vancouver's "no bad news" site. But today we have some news for you: you can show your support for the police and their outreach programs in a couple of ways. One of them involves burgers and the other involves aviator sunglasses.

I caught wind of on Fatburger's Facebook page today. Essentially, just show up to the Fatburger location when it reopens on Saturday and buy a burger. Hell, buy a plateful of them like Wimpy from Popeye (did I just date myself?) and feel good in knowing that the proceeds will go towards the .

Another way you can show your support is by way of these VPD-branded aviator shades which you may have seen recently at London Drugs. They're $20 and of course the proceeds from them go to the VPF as well.

What exactly is the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Foundation and why do they need our help and support? They were formed in 1976 and through members and fundraising initiatives like these two examples I've given, they've granted almost $3 million toward innovative policing equipment and community outreach programs. These are things that wouldn't otherwise have been possible within the regular operating budget of the VPD. The Foundation "also strives to increase awareness about the everyday heroic actions of the men and women of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department.". They're awesome, like these aviators.

If you can't find a pair of these shades at London Drugs, you can buy them online for $20 .
