Commercial Drive has lost one of its sushi shops, as .
Located at 2586 Commercial Dr since 2017, the restaurant also specialized in poke bowls with many take-out options; they also ran a school program for a while. It appears to have quietly closed in October.
Moving into the space is Jamila's Kitchen, the second location for the Afghani-focused restaurant. The original, in Coquitlam, was opened six years ago by Jamila and Malik Malikzada.
"We are so excited to take the most wanted of our menu items to Vancouver," states the restaurant on Facebook.
Jamila's carries a variety of Afghani dishes and foods from neighbouring regions including pakora and biryani.
The Malikzadas arrived in Canada in 2000 after fleeing Afghanistan in 1995 during a civil war in the country. After working a series of jobs, they opened Jamila's Kitchen and Grill; shortly after they launched an in-house program to help the hungry.
An opening date has yet to be announced for their new Commercial Drive location.
