After more than a year of teasing its soft, sweet confections, Sweet Talk Donuts is ready to shout its imminent arrival in Port Moody.
The new doughnut destination is putting the finishing touches on its new shop at 87 Moody St. right next door to Taps and Tacos.
That’s extra convenient for Scott McTavish, who happens to own both ventures.
Sweet Talk first hinted at its arrival in May 2022, soliciting ideas for favourite doughnut flavours on its social media accounts.
The response was overwhelming, with dozens of suggestions ranging from mango passionfruit curd to vegan maple dipped.
At Christmas it even featured such seasonal sensations like eggnog stuffie and Xmas vanilla glaze.
Since then the doughnut makers have been testing their various concoctions at a series of pop-up shops and markets, including several at breweries along Port Moody's Brewers Row on Murray Street.
Most have resulted in sell outs, some within 30 minutes of opening.
“Prepare for a donut journey that’ll leave you spellbound and craving for more,” said the doughnut dealer in a recent social media post.
Followers have been effusive in their anticipation.
“I am available for taste testing,” said one.
“I need a donut allowance,” added another.
Sweet Talk hasn’t yet announced a definitive date for its grand opening, other than a cagey “coming soon” as work continues on building out its new shop.
That means there’s still time for local doughnut lovers to get in shape for the calorie assault that’s coming their way — the average glazed doughnut has about 300 calories and 14 grams of fat, according to healthline.com.
Sweet Talk joins Coquitlam’s in the Tri-City’s gourmet doughnut marketplace. , is also readying its first permanent shop in the City Centre neighbourhood
But another beloved local doughnuteria, Royal City Doughnuts, that pitched its treats online and at farmers markets, recently closed permanently.
