One of the most important books to English literature is having it's stay extended at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Art Gallery.

The first folio of William Shakespeare's work is on display for another couple of weeks. The book, almost 400 years old, dates from just after Shakespeare's death. Friends and colleagues, recognizing the importance of his work, collected plays and writing by the English icon and put it together in one document.

The first folio helped many of Shakespeare's plays that would have been lost otherwise.  It contains the earliest printings of plays like The Tempest and Twelfth Night.

Only 235 are known to exist, and UBC acquired one late last year. While the first folio is the first and most famous of the Shakespeare folios, there are three others as well, which UBC had already collected.

All four folios are on display together for the first time in Vancouver. The exhibition at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Art Gallery was supposed to close March 20, but is being extended through to April 10 now.
