, a supplier of specialty beverages, is set to launch a five-week Sunday-only residency, to support the Greater Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Food Bank, at East Vancouver’s Prototype Coffee.
The event, aptly named Sunday Service, will kick off on Jan. 5 and run every Sunday until Feb. 2, offering a selection of hard to find beers to try, all for a good cause, of course.
Mike Willis, the event organizer, said West Craft began arranging the events in September, after reading reports the food bank was anticipating a shortage of volunteers and supplies for the upcoming season.
“We took it upon ourselves to consult local organizations, our favourite little coffee shop in East Vancouver, and our beer suppliers — and their friends —to put together an event to help people who are in need,” he said.
Each event will feature Prototype’s award-winning rotating artisanal coffees and locally made snacks, along with West Craft’s selection of rare craft beers.
Willis said the event would have beers for all tastes, with lagers, sours, barrel-aged beers, hazy India pale ales, milkshake India pale ales, fruit beers and more.
“The beers being featured are a selection of some of our favourites and others that have been on our wish list to bring to this side of the world —for the first time to beer drinkers — for a very long time,” he said.
West Craft is hoping to raise around $1,000 in their first residency in the space.
“We know a lot of great people who have helped us and we hope that we can continue this with their help after our first five week residency,” Willis said.
The residency will close with a launch of a new beer that was made in collaboration with the coffee roaster and Ontario’s Nickel Brook Brewing that will also be included in the line-up of beers to raise extra dollars for fresh food for the food bank.
In addition, West Craft will be collecting non-perishable food items to drop off at the food bank on behalf of those who are not able to drop off food.
