A North Shore treasure will make a couple of intimate appearances next week to mark 50 years in the music business.
Roy Forbes will celebrate half a century of making music when he performs Oct. 22 and 23 at North Vancouver’s Deep Cove Shaw Theatre.
Proving that he’s still got a lot of soul left in him, Forbes will play songs from his latest album, 2020’s Edge of Blue. It’ll just be him and his Gurian guitar onstage at the Deep Cove shows: One guy, one guitar.
The folk musician, a longtime North Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»resident who was born in Dawson Creek, has put together a memorable musical career since getting his start in the business in 1971 performing under his childhood nickname "Bim." He eventually reclaimed his own full name as a solo performer, and formed a Canadian folk supergroup known as UHF along with Shari Ulrich and Bill Henderson.
He’s been a mainstay on the Canadian folk music festival scene for years, his songs have been recorded by the likes of Valdy and Sylvia Tyson, and his show Roy’s Record Room is still going strong after 15 years on Alberta-based independent radio station CKUA.
