A small, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»version of the Japanese Matsuri festival is happening in the city's Japantown
Influenced by the grand Japanese event and typical Japanese summer festivals, the is held in the paueru gai area– Vancouver's historic Japanese Canadian neighbourhood.
This year, the two-day festival is taking place July 30 and 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. around Powell Street, with food trucks, arts and festivities to celebrate and recognize the city's Japanese community.
Many cultural displays, demonstrations and activities will take place, including martial arts demonstrations and an amateur sumo tournament. There will also be arts in various mediums such as dance, music, and film, as well as walking tours of the historic neighbourhood.
A marketplace and food booths serving Japanese eats, with food trucks anchored near the end of the road, will line Alexander and Jackson streets, with a stage at the intersection. A main stage will be set up with other activities at Oppenheimer Park which will be the hub of the festival, with tents, booths, demo areas and more.
