Installation of Coquitlam’s annual Lights at Lafarge holiday display in Town Centre Park has begun.
The process to string about one million little LED lights, hang stars in the trees and giant aluminum chandeliers above the walking trail that encircles the lake takes an army of city workers and volunteers, said Sara Yastremski, Coquitlam’s parks services manager.
The crews started on Tuesday and will continue their work right up until the display officially begins Nov. 24. It runs until the end of February.
Yastremski said while many beloved elements, like the light tunnels at the north end of the 1.2-km path, will be back, others have been reimagined to keep the display fresh for visitors who’ve made an evening stroll around the lake part of their holiday tradition.
She said some of those elements will even change up through the two months the park is aglow.

The full display is officially turned on as that runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 24. The event features DJ music, a children’s choir, a comedy magic show and a spectacular fire and light show finale.
Food trucks will also be on hand until 9 p.m., as well as the Rocky Point Ice Cream concession stand that will offer cold and hot treats.
