Some of Vancouver's favourite Christmastime attractions have closed to inclement weather Friday.
There is a severe winter storm warning in effect for Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and much of B.C. as it braces for freezing rain following last night's snowfall. As a result, two major Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»attractions run by the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Board of Parks and Recreation have announced today that they will be closed.
VanDusen Gardens is will be closed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today (Dec. 23) and reports that crews are working to clear the snow for the Festival of Lights event this evening. If the closure persists they promise that all ticket holders will be contacted directly.
Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth park will also be closed but hopes to reopen Saturday.
Yesterday, the parks board announced that an accumulation of ice- and snow-related hazards forced the closure of a portion of the Stanley Park seawall between Third Beach and the Lions Gate Bridge. They have yet to announce when it will re-open.
After Tuesday's snowfall, the Bright Nights in Stanley Park closed for the evening and there is no word as of yet if it will close tonight as well.
Science World has also announced this morning that it will be closed today. As will the Beauty Biodiversity Museum at UBC.
And the PNE Winter Fair & Boy Band Christmas concert at the Pacific Coliseum has been cancelled today.
