Commercial Drive, Mount Pleasant, and the West End will each have a weekend day free of cars on their main streets later this year, to raise awareness about living without a vehicle.
"A goal related to the Car Free Festival is to create awareness about a car-free mindset and show that there is a path where we start to depend less on fossil fuels," state organizers.
The will visit each popular neighbourhood later this year over three weekends in September, similar to last year.
- The first, on Sept. 9, will shut down Commercial Drive from the North Grandview Highway to 1st Avenue.
- The second, on Sept 16, will shut down Main Street from East 10th Avenue to King Edward Avenue.
- The third, on Sept. 24, will shut down Denman Street from Davie Street to Robson Street.
Each festival will run from noon to 7 p.m.
"In 2023, Car Free Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Society is committed to car-free spaces that grow inclusivity and diversity, making our communities healthier and more vibrant," state organizers.
