Along with Canada Place’s annual light show and Christmas displays, the cruise ship port will present a virtual concert with appearances from several talented Canadians.
The Canadian Heritage’s llumiNATION event is an online music show that will take Canadians on a cross-Canada journey featuring numerous performances from talented Canadians across the country. The event will kick off from Canada Place on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. and will feature a performance by three-time Juno Award nominee Jill Barber.
The show will take its viewers to see performances from Lisa LeBlanc and her band in Moncton, New Brunswick. Then to Toronto to watch national champion figure skaters Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro, and singer-songwriter Annie Villeneuve in Montreal.
The show will also present a legend told by Indigenous youth from the community of Dettah in Yellowknife about the region's Northern Lights.
Viewers will be guided through their journey by gospel pianist Gregory Charles who will be performing in Ottawa with the folk rock duo Martha and Rufus Wainwright; Canada's drag superstar Priyanka; Indigenous dancer Theland Kicknosway; the Peace Tower carillon player Dr. Andrea McCrady and chefs Dominique Dufour and Katie Ardington will introduce viewers to Ottawa's culinary scene.
Also on Dec. 17 Canada Place will launch more virtual content in celebration of the 31st annual Christmas at Canada Place event. As there are no in-person events permitted in B.C. due to COVID-19 the online event will feature a photo tour of the historic Woodward’s Windows and Avenue of Christmas Trees, holiday recipes as well as a holiday-themed Sails of Light display.
The IllumiNATION show can be watched on both as well as the . The will Christmas at Canada Place virtual celebration will be streamed through Canada Place’s Facebook pages. Both events will continue until Jan. 7, 2021.
