A Port Coquitlam artist has made 100 little paintings of the sky.
And, next month, will show her new collection in her first solo exhibition that will run from April 15 to 28 at the (701-2071 Kingsway Ave.).
Titled Tiny Expanses, the series of the two-inch square acrylic paintings features different views of the sky — from sunrises to storm clouds — based on photos from around the world.
"Painting the variety and beauty of skies in miniature has been enthralling," Chan told the Tri-City News.
"My hope is that like sparkling jewels, these 'tinies' would bring moments of joy and uplift people's spirits."
"To capture the sky in such a small scale demonstrates Olive's skill in harmonizing the principles of colour, mood and lighting," said gallery owner Susan Greig in a news release.
Chan, who has painted for 25 years, is best known for her in 2020 that was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, where artists mailed "art hugs" to seniors and front-line workers.
Her art was also highlighted at last year for its Healing Gardens display and she was one of five artists filmed by the City of Port Coquitlam for its Behind the Scenes video series.
The opening reception for Tiny Expanses is on April 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Braid St. Gallery.
The facility will also be open to the public on April 16; however, from April 17 to 28, the artwork can be viewed by appointment only.
