A big chunk of Vancouver's Main Street will be free of vehicles this Sunday, but it will still be a very busy area.
will take over a long stretch of the road through Mount Pleasant (even spilling out past the neighbourhood's borders), on Sept. 15 from noon to 7 p.m.
The free and family-friendly event will be quite long, physically, running from 10th Avenue to 30th Avenue. Throughout the event, the car-free ethos will be celebrated.
"Our multi-site annual festival transforms busy streets into vibrant public spaces, bringing artists, performers, local businesses, and communities together," reads the Car Free .
The huge event will feature more than 35 performers on six different stages spread out along the street, along with vendors and activities.
Bands playing include the West Coast Fiddleheads, Carolyn Mark and Her New Best Friend, Space Queen, Doobie Howser, and the Frolickers.
This will be the second (after last weekend's event on Commercial Drive) and final Car Free Day of 2024; there won't be one in the West End this year.
Attendees are encouraged to walk, roll, or use transit to get to the event if possible. will likely publish a guide to using transit to get to Car Free Day on Main Street towards the end of the week. Bus users should expect detours for routes that service Main Street in the event area.
