North Shore goaltender David Tendeck signed with the 鶹ýӳGiants, the WHL club announced Tuesday.
Drafted by the Giants in the sixth round of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft at 130th overall, the six-foot-one goalie posted a 15-7-2 record and a 2.21 goals against average with the 鶹ýӳNorthwest Giants of the BC Major Midget League in the 2014/15 season. He was also named the MVP of two games at the Mac’s Midget Tournament in Calgary.
“I’m speechless,” said Tendeck in a Giants news release. “It feels great to sign with the Giants. I’ve always wanted to play for this team since I was little, so it’s awesome.”
鶹ýӳalso signed Regina-born defender Alex Kannok-Leipert, who had 16 goals and 12 assists in 29 games with the Regina Monarchs Bantam AA team in 2014/15. The Giants selected him in the fourth round of the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft at 79th overall. Kannok-Leipert is slated to play the 2015/16 season with the Regina Pat Canadians Midget AAA team.
“I’m extremely excited to sign with such a classy organization,” said Kannok-Leipert.
“We’re really happy to add both of these young players to our club,” said Jason Ripplinger, the Giants director of player personnel. “David is a big, athletic goaltender who has had some great successes in minor hockey, and Alex is a smart, smooth skating defenseman with good instincts. They’re both great additions for the future."
The Giants finished their 2015 training camp yesterday and host their first pre-season game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 against the Kamloops Blazers.
