The Canadian women’s hockey team won gold in dramatic fashion today, coming from behind a 2-0 deficit with just 3:26 minutes remaining in the final period before beating the Americans in OT. There are high hopes the men will win gold again as well, but first they too will have to beat Team U.S.A. in order to advance to the final round on Sunday.
If heading to a bar for a 9 a.m. puck drop tomorrow (Feb. 21) doesn’t sound appealing and your own home entertainment system won’t do the game justice, most if not all community centres will be playing the game on the biggest TVs they can get their hands on.
The Creekside Recreation Centre (1 Athletes Way) in the former Olympic Village will, for obvious reasons, probably be the liveliest, but most of the other 23 centres will also have it on.
Mount Pleasant (1 Kingsway) and Kerrisdale (5851 West Blvd.) have both publicly invited crowds to join them, while every other centre contacted by the Courier said they’ll be screening it too, although a Carnegie Centre staffer cautioned that choosing the channel has to be agreed on by group consensus.
Somehow it seems unlikely to be a problem.
