鶹ýӳCollege (2-0, 1-1) hosts the matchup of their season Saturday, Oct. 5 against the No. 1 Mt. Douglas Rams from Victoria. The two AAA powerhouse teams last met at B.C. Place when the Rams defeated the Fighting Irish to win their second consecutive provincial championship.

“We have not meet since last December, and both teams are hungry for each other,” said VC head coach Todd Bernett in an email to the Courier. “This game matters as much to each team as any other on our schedules. I know we feel that way.”

The homecoming game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at O’Hagan Field.

The Rams (2-1, 2-0) are coming off a 54-0 win over Notre Dame last week and an equally dominating 51-0 shutout win over West 鶹ýӳthe week before that. They are assertively playing to their strengths, which are driven by their fast and dynamic running back Marcus Davis and a focused defence.

The Fighting Irish are younger than last year and battling more injuries than the coach has seen in his 13 years at the helm. "I am looking forward to seeing the strength of our team, the offensive line, battle with their defensive line. They have an excellent defensive line, really disruptive,” said Bernett.

"We are somewhat inexperienced, but growing out of that by now. Our only issue now is health. We are as injured as I have ever seen a team be here. But there is not a licking our wounds mentality going on — we have to go out and battle even though we are bleeding."

Notre Dame vs Handsworth

In a conference game, the Notre Dame Jugglers (2-1, 0-1) host the Handsworth Highlanders (1-1, 1-0) 7:30 Oct. 4 at Burnaby Lakes.

Hamber vs Earl Marriott

The Eric Hamber Griffins host the Earl Marriott Mariners 4:30 Oct. 4 in the teams’ first AA Tier II meeting of the season. The Mariners (0-0) are untested and the Griffins (3-0, 0-1) are looking for their first win.
