The University of British Columbia men’s soccer team won Team of the Year for its display of sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the year.

Another UBC award went to head coach, Graham Thomas, of the Thunderbirds women’s hockey team , for Male Coach of the Year in recognition of the team’s winning record under his tutelage.

Graham said he wasn’t told about the award ahead of the ceremony so was completely shocked when his name was called.

“I’m definitely humbled by it and very honoured to have won it,” he said.

The winners were chosen by a committee of B.C. sports media and sports leaders.

Past winners included Rick Hansen, John Furlong and Nancy Green-Raine.
