If you’re feeling a little Irish jig coming on this weekend, why not put your energy to good use and take part in the Richmond Olympic Parkrun St. Patrick’s Day event on Saturday.
The free, timed (optional) 5K run, jog or walk goes every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. on the Middle Arm Dyke Trail.
But this Saturday, with most of the Western world claiming to be part Irish for St. Patrick’s Day – officially Sunday, March 17 – Richmond’s parkrun organizers are encouraging everyone to “go green.â€
The run starts near the UBC Boathouse, heads north past the water drop statue for a 1K loop, back past the starting point, then south past the Olympic oval, before retracing your steps to complete the 5K.
Walkers, runners and joggers are all welcome, as are parents with strollers and dog owners with their leashed pooches.
And don’t worry about getting left behind, the parkrun volunteers have a Tail Walker to keep walkers company right up until the finish line.
Kids under 11 are welcome as long as they run with an adult.
Parkrun is also looking for volunteers to help run the weekly event.
