Megan and Nicole McNamara have capped a busy summer in the sand as Canadian champions.
The twins from Tsawwassen rolled to a perfect 7-0 record at the 2018 Beach Nationals, held at Ashbridge’s Bay in Toronto.Â
The McNamaras outlasted the Ontario team of Julie Gordon and Sophie Bukovec in the championship match — 21-16, 18-21 and 15-12. It was their second straight three-set victory after they rallied to get past Jamie Broder and Taylor Pischke 13-21, 21-19 and 15-13 in the semi-finals.Â
Up until that point, the McNamaras had cruised along with straight set wins in the 20-team division, including a 3-0 run in round-robin play.
Last month, the South Delta Secondary graduates won the World University Championship in Munich, Germany which featured 29 countries.
They now head back to UCLA for their senior year — looking to add to their already decorated NCAA careers that includes winning the school’s first-ever national championship last spring.
The McNamaras are three-time All-Americans and completed their junior campaign with several individual honours including NCAA All-Tournament Court One Team, Pac-12 All-Tournament Team and Pac 12 Pair of the Year. Nicole was also named Pac-12 Player of the Year.
