Do you run?

Say, as little as a few times a month or even once each day?

Are you also a woman? Are you 60 years old? Or in your 70s?

If you’re still nodding your head, how about this next one: Do you want to be on television? As an extra? In a Reebok commercial?

Reebok is currently casting a commercial that centres on female runners and athletes of all ages, from “15 – 70!!” according to an announcement I saw on social media.

But if you’re a fit 74-year-old woman, I hope they wouldn’t turn you away. If it were up to me, septuagenarian athletes and their 80- and 90-year-old buddies will get a commercial of their own.

This woman could have her own commercial, too.

Five women over the age of 85 completed the Sun Run last year. The fastest among them covered the 10-kilometre distance in less than 90 minutes, and among women aged 70 to 74, Joyce Metcalf cracked 59 minutes to win her category. More than 3,400 women over the age of 50 ran last year’s race, so no doubt Reebok has a long list of options should those runners audition.

With the promotional hastag , Reebok is capitalizing on the groundswell of female athletes --- professional, amateur and recreational --- that are making waves and pursuing physical activity of all forms. One tag line reads, "These days, more than ever before, will be the time to tell women they're strong."

Last year Reebok filmed a commercial featuring yoga, trail-running, mud-running and Crossfit practitioners in Vancouver. It was called "Freak Show: Be More Human" and the city plays a generic backdrop but is still recognizable as itself.

The 鶹ýӳcasting director for that advertisement and this one currently under production said “hundreds and hundreds” of young women have been in touch about auditioning as extras for the latest commercial. Rates range from $500 a day to more than $4,250.

“It’s a very fit city. It’s amazing,” said Karen, the casting director who declined to give me her last name or that of her company.

When I called, she asked me, “Tell me about your running.” I went along with it and said “regularly” and that I like to wear bright, colourful clothes. Then I identified myself as a reporter, so no audition for me.

Karen said they will cast about 60 women and are still looking for athletic women with a silver-haired look (my phrase, not hers) in their 50s and older.

Casting is by appointment only on Jan. 22, 23 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact [email protected].

Filming is planned for Feb. 1 and 2.
