North Vancouver’s Ashley Zibrik won the PGA of BC Women’s Championship for the second time in her career earlier this month, besting a strong field at Point Grey Golf and Country Club.

The tournament used a stableford points scoring system, and Zibrik racked up 74 points in the 36-hole event to win by three points over four-time champion Leila Harman.

“I just wanted to play some good golf and to shoot 68 (total points) today against some phenomenal golfers in this field,” said Zibrik in a PGA of BC release. The win was impressive given the fact that Zibrik has a one-year-old son at home and hasn’t been able to play nearly as much as she usually does. Her lack of course time may have even helped her put up a big score, she joked.

“I think when you’re a new mom you have lower expectations, so I just hit some really good shots.”

Zibrik formerly worked as an instructor at North Vancouver’s Seymour Creek Golf Centre and is now at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club. She won the PGA of Canada’s Class “A” Professional of the Year Award in 2016 and received the association’s Professional Development Award in 2014, remaining to this day the only woman to win either of those national awards.
