In battle of Vancouver's undefeated, King George goes one up on Lord Byng

King George secondary --- On the final night of the regular season* the King George Dragons went a perfect 11-0 and handed the Lord Byng Grey Ghosts their first loss in the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­senior boys basketball league at the AA/AAA level.Ìý

King George's Yoel Teclehaimanot and Lord Byng's Nathan Bromige matched up through the night, with each player leading his team in scoring.

Bromige closed the first quarter with an outside three-pointer to take a 15-12 lead over King George. ThenÌýTeclehaimanot answered at the close of the second quarter with a rafter-brushing trey of his own to take back the lead at 29-26 as the buzzer rang.Ìý

King George hung on to win by four points and begins their defence of the city title as the no. 1 seed for this year's city championship tournament.Ìý

There are two concurrent senior boys city championships, one at the AA/AAA level and one at the AAA level.**

Both tournaments are at Windermere secondary Tuesday through Friday next week, with the championships scheduled Feb. 10 at 5:45 p.m. at the AAAA tier and 7:30 p.m. for the AA/AAA tier.

** Tiers A through AAAA are determined by the number of Grade 11 and Grade 12 boys at a given school
