Hastings Little League pitcher Nicola Barba, shown here at practice last week, threw a no hitter in Thursday’s 12-0 win over Team Atlantic.

A goose egg on the mound and four dingers at the dish provided the ideal start Thursday for the Hastings Community Little League’s entry at the Little League Canadian Championships.

The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»club made easy work of the Atlantic representatives from Sydney, Nova Scotia to the tune of 12-0 in front of a packed house at the newly-refurbished Richard Saunders field.

Nicola Barba pitched a no-hitter en route to the win, striking out eight of the nine batters he faced. Loreto Siniscalchi came in for relief duties and fanned all comers as well.

The offence came by way of two home runs from Stefano Dal Sasso, while Liam MacLean and Siniscalchi also went yard.

Meanwhile, B.C.’s other entry at the tournament also started off with a resounding offensive display coupled with attention to defensive detail.

Whalley claimed a 10-0 victory over the Prairie team from Moose Jaw, with Colton Frick picking up the win on the mound. The offence was highlighted by a Noah Casey homer to deep centre field.

Action continues today (Friday, Aug. 5) with Hastings playing host to Whalley at 6 p.m.

The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»team then continues on with contests against the Port Arthur Nationals (Team Ontario) and Southwest Little League (Team Alberta) on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Game time for both contests is 6 p.m. at Hasting Park.
