Bowen Byram's outstanding season with the Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Giants has earned him an invite to next month's Team Canada U18 Team selection camp.

Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Giants 2001-born defenceman Bowen Byram has been invited to attend Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team Selection Camp which takes place July 28 – August 1 in Calgary. Those selected from this camp will go on to represent Canada at the newly named Hlinka Gretzky Cup from August 6 – 11 in Red Deer, AB. 44 players from Canada were invited to this camp and 14 are from the Western Hockey League.

Originally selected by the Giants third overall in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, the Cranbrook native is fresh off his first full season in the WHL.

In 60 games, Byram posted six goals and 21 assists for 27 points which led all 16-year-old defencemen in the Western Hockey League. In seven playoff games, Byram followed up with three goals and four assists to lead all Giants blueliners. He was named Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Giants Rookie of the Year and was also the Western Conference Finalist for the WHL Rookie of the Year. He is eligible for the 2019 NHL Draft.

“Any time a player like Bowen gets the opportunity to play at the international level it’s great for their development. The experience helps all the players around him,” said Giants GM Barclay Parneta. “He’s already established an excellent international track record of success and we have no doubt that he will represent himself, his country and the Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Giants with the utmost class at this event.”

Byram is no stranger to international competition having already suited up for Canada in April at the 2018 World Under-18’s which took place in Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk, Russia. In November, 2017 Byram suited up for Canada Red at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and earned a Silver Medal.

He attended South Delta Secondary for his Grade 11 year.
