Ovie Odjegba and Robbie Welch combined for 274 yards and four rushing touchdowns in a 34-21 post-season win over Kelowna’s Mt. Boucherie Bears Nov. 9 at O’Hagan Field.
The win puts Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»College, ranked fifth among AAA varsity football teams in B.C., into the quarterfinal matchup against the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers next Saturday.
Welch opened scoring with a two-yard run in the first quarter and the Bears answered in the second to take a 7-6 lead at half time. The Fighting Irish unleashed the dogs after the break to outscore the visitors 21-6 and build an insurmountable lead. Defensive back Adrian Yu recovered the ball on a fumble and ran it back for a 36-yard touchdown and Odjegba scored on 15- and 75-yard runs. Welch added insurance in the fourth quarter with an 11-yard rushing touchdown.
Emilio Cantatgallo made two of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»College’s four sacks and Kristian Domingo, as he has all regular season, led the Irish with 12 tackles.
Quarterback Giordy Belfiore made eight of 14 attempts and passed for 97 yards.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»College travels to Surrey to meet the Panthers Nov. 16.
