In their first game of the regular season, the Notre Dame Jugglers (1-1, 0-1) came up against the undefeated Mt. Douglas Rams (3-0) who looked all the part of a three-time defending provincial champion — that is gunning for four in a row.
The Jugglers challenged the Rams on the ground, but Mt. Douglas switched up their offence and threw for four touchdowns in a 36-7 win at Burnaby Lake Park on Sept. 19. Nicholas Carusi, a five-foot-ten running back, scored Notre Dame’s lone touchdown.
"Mt. Doug is still a strong program," said Notre Dame head coach Richard Scott. "We did some good things for three quarters. We were physical and got them out of their comfort zone for a while but failed in the red zone a couple of times and did not have the depth to stay in the game in the fourth quarter."
He added, "Progress made." When the teams met in 2013, the Rams shutout the Jugglers 54-0.
Notre Dame plays New West at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Burnaby Lake Park.
Across town, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»College (1-1, 0-1) had a bye last week because their scheduled game against Belmont secondary, a public school in Langford, was postponed since the Bulldogs’ program wasn’t running through the teachers’ labour dispute. The two teams will meet Nov. 8.Â
The Fighting Irish travel to Victoria's Goudy Turf to play Mt. Douglas at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 26.Â
