The new BC Tennis Hub will be open to the public March 1 for programs, tournaments and court bookings.

The Sandman Signature Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»Airport Hotel and Resort is teaming up with Tennis BC.

The sport’s provincial organization announced Monday the opening of the Tennis BC Hub through an agreement with the Richmond hotel, owned by Northland Prosperities Corporation. The goal of the new public facility is providing accessible and inclusive tennis programs, indoor court bookings, and tournaments for all ages and levels.

The news comes in the wake of many recent historical moments in Canadian tennis including Ontario’s Bianca Andreescu winning the 2019 US Open and Team Canada finishing runner-up at the Davis Cup Finals last year.

The trend is continuing into 2020 with British Columbia adding to this unforgettable time in Canadian tennis history. For the first time in BC’s history, Tennis BC will operate a facility. This milestone marks a major accomplishment for Tennis BC in its mission to inspire and enable the sport of tennis in British Columbia.

“This is a significant event for tennis in BC and in our organization’s 100-plus year history. Our vision for this facility is to be a leader in creating innovative tennis pathways that support health and well-being in our communities,” shared Mark Roberts, Tennis BC’s CEO.

“We are grateful to Northland Properties for providing us with this opportunity, and we look forward to continue working with our partners such as Tennis Canada and viaSport moving forward. Tennis BC and Tennis Canada will continue to work together to bring a Western Canada Tennis Centre to BC in the future to provide more year-round tennis facilities, accommodate participant demand and to further develop tennis players in BC.”

The facility, located at  10251 St Edwards Drive, is currently undergoing an update, including resurfacing of the three courts. Tennis BC Hub will open its doors to the public on March 1.

“We are excited to support Tennis British Columbia with this facility and their vision,” said Tom Gaglardi, President & CEO of Northland Properties Corporation. “We have strong company and family roots in Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»and look forward to further helping the development of tennis in BC.”
