I got honked at last week in Kitsilano.
Driving a compact two-seater that belongs to a large car-share fleet, I passed two cyclists on West First Avenue beside the Molson Brewery. I was followed by man driving a sedan.
I reached a green light at the intersection with Burrard Street and was signalling to turn right. One cyclist went behind me to continue straight across Burrard. Knowing the bike lane was on my right might still be occupied, I looked for the second cyclist in my rear-view mirror. She was slower, but not far back. I waited.
The driver didn’t like this. He honked. I couldn’t help but give him the finger.Ìý
By now the second cyclist signaled she was turning right into the designated bike lane that leads onto the bridge. She turned.
I turned right.
The man in the other car also turned right.
We all made it safely to the red light at the next intersection.
