Cross-country: Trummer and Charlton win big for Byng

Lord Byng harriers Max Trummer and Callie Charlton both ran to first place at the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»cross-country championship Oct. 23.

Max Trummer and Callie Charlton, both of Lord Byng, were the respective boys and girls winners of the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»cross-country zone final Oct. 23 at Fraserview.

Trummer beat his closest rival, Aran Rafie-Pour by nine seconds. He finished the hilly, 7.6-kilometre course in 28 minutes and 17 seconds. Rafie-Pour, a Killarney runner, finished in 28:26 and Kitsilano’s Thomson Harris was third in 28:46.

Charlton, who is in Grade 10, put a lot of distance between herself and her closest competitors. She covered the 3.8 km course in 14:46. Killarney’s Enid Au came second in 15:23 and Kitsilano’s Annika Austin was third in 15:29.

For the sixth year in a row, Killarney earned the most points during the four cross-country meets of the 2013 season. Thanks to their high participation rate at Killarney, the Cougars combined to earn this recognition for their boys, girls and combined score.

The provincial championship is Nov. 2 at Aldergrove Regional Park in Langley.
