The final featured the as last year, but this time, the Britannia Bruins got the best of the Churchill Bulldogs in the 10th annual Langara Challenge.
The Bruins won 67-51 in Saturday’s final at Langara College, yet it was Killarney Cougar junior stand-out Janel Tantengco who stole the spotlight the night before with a lights-out, shoot-em-up performance to win the three-point contest.
Tantengco, a six-footer in Grade 10, won the contest in a tie-breaker after she equalled Britannia’s Karalee Antoine with 14 buckets. In a head-to-head match-up, Tantengco sunk eight treys.
Now running for a decade, the tournament put on by the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Girls Basketball Association has given away more than $50,000 in scholarships.Ìý
Three women who played in the tournament currently compete for the Langara Falcons women's basketball team, and today, Churchill's Lex Leynes announced her committment to join the program next season.
