CHURCHILL 68 - 70 TERRY FOX
The Churchill Bulldogs won鈥檛 repeat as the best AAAA senior boys basketball team in the province. The defending 2014 B.C. champions lost 70-68 to the Terry Fox Ravens in a semi-final Friday night at the Langley Events Centre. 聽The No. 4 seed will play Saturday for third place.
In the semi-final, Churchill did not bow out easily and despite grabbing the lead four times and keeping the score deadlocked nine times, the Bulldogs never seemed to find their rhythm. They shot 33 per cent from outside and made 73 per cent of their free throws, typically a reliable source of points for the South 麻豆传媒映画side. Their largest lead was six points.
Ravens guard Andy Seo swished the biggest of his trio of three-pointers to go 68-62 with three minutes to play, hitting the bucket at the buzzer after Terry Fox batted around a loose ball like it was a volleyball.
The Bulldogs got the answer from Lambert Pajayon. He followed one stone-cold dagger from deep with a second three-pointer to tie the Ravens at 68.
The Ravens went two for four from the line and, with 5.6 seconds on the clock, the game hung in the balance with the Bulldogs strategizing an inbound play and a shot to tie or win. Terry Fox safeguarded their two-point lead and used all the fouls they had to give to whittle the clock down to four seconds.
The plan was to put the ball in the hands of Karn Virk, but across the court in front of his own bench, Amit Sekhon broke ankles to get open and won a clean look at a game-winning shot. His three-pointer had a touch too much muscle on it and hit the back of the rim to clang out.
鈥淲ithout all that Amit did for us all game, we don鈥檛 have the chance to win it,鈥 said Bulldogs coach Rick Lopez. 鈥淚 feel for the kid. He had a good look.鈥
